The tree was chosen to symbolize our company because it represents growth, life and strength. And like the tree, Beverly has grown from a small, one-facility operation in 1963 to over 600 locations nationwide.

Beverly went public in 1966 and, soon after changing the company name from Beverly to Beverly Enterprises, was listed on the American and Pacific Coast Stock Exchanges. In 1982, it was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In the early '70s, Beverly began strengthening its financial and operating base by extending operations through acquisitions of additional nursing facilities. It was at this time that Beverly made the decision to divest some unrelated business ventures and concentrate on long-term care.

The first major acquisition that began Beverly's predominance in the nursing home industry was in 1977 when the company purchased a chain of nursing homes based in Arkansas. This purchase not only doubled Beverly's size -- making the company number two in the industry -- but also heralded the company's serious intentions of assuming leadership in the long-term care field.

Throughout its growth and expansion into related services, Beverly has continued to implement, fund and develop new ideas. Its innovative internal quality assurance program enables this progressive, caring company to continue its drive to improve the care of those dependent upon its services.
