BEVERLY HEALTHCARE AND ARJO, INC., IMPLEMENT A NATIONWIDE BACK INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM (BIPP®)
Beverly Healthcare has partnered with Arjo, Inc., to promote a no manual lifting environment to reduce staff and resident injuries. By April, Arjo's back and injury prevention program (BIPP®) will be operating in all of Beverly Healthcare's 561 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
Arjo's BIPP® began in the late 1980's with an indepth study of the causes and prevention of transferrelated injuries associated with patient handling tasks in healthcare facilities. Associated with this effort was an introduction of new ergonomically designed patient lifts.
Beverly Healthcare has been conducting a pilot program of the BIPP® with extremely successful results. After two years, the Safety and Loss Control Department measured the success of the program and found that injuries had decreased and associates actually liked to use the equipment. They discovered that residents who were afraid to be moved with the old lifts were feeling much better about the new equipment. And their families felt better too. The proven success, and Beverly Healthcare's desire to help their caregivers, resulted in Beverly Healthcare's commitment to place a BIPP® in every facility.
Arjo, Inc. designs, manufactures, sells and services a complete line of hygiene, lift, transport, and therapy systems. Arjo's products cover the continuum of care and can accommodate ambulatory to fully recumbent residents while offering a safe and relaxing environment for both patients and staff.
