Audit, and Risk Management
Beverly Enterprises offers a broad spectrum of challenging internship opportunities for accounting, audit, and treasury students. It is our goal to introduce them to the company through an Internship Program specifically designed to broaden and enhance the student’s actual business experience and operational knowledge.
The following summaries present an overview of the array of financial functions and provide a better understanding of the diverse learning opportunities a student will find at Beverly Enterprises.

Financial Services: This department provides an array of services for Beverly’s nationwide healthcare network. Primarily this area provides operational accounting and reimbursement services to Beverly Healthcare (BHC) [formerly Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services], our largest subsidiary. Beverly Healthcare consists of two operating divisions with corporate operations teams and various management teams supported directly by Financial Services. Requests for service are diverse, allowing the opportunity to work on a wide range of financial and healthcare related reimbursement and business issues.

Internal Audit: This area provides auditing, consulting and investigatory services to the company. The Audit Department assesses the financial, operating and regulatory risks in Beverly’s control processes and activities, and develops an audit plan to address the identified risks. This department provides the opportunity for a variety of experience from auditing nursing homes, transitional care hospitals, outpatient rehab facilities and home care programs to corporate departments and information technology initiatives.

Financial Planning and Controls: This department consists of a team of financial professionals with an emphasis on corporate financial analysis and interpretation. The goal of the department is to maximize shareholder value by providing management and the Board of Directors with timely information and interpretative data, allowing strategic decisions to be made with informed intelligence.

Financial Reporting: This area provides financial statement presentation for groups inside and outside the company, operational accounting for all corporate functions, audit coordination with our public accounting firm, and accounting and processing of all fixed asset purchases for the company. The department is organized functionality: SEC reporting and audit coordination, corporate accounting, general ledger system maintenance and reporting and fixed asset accounting.
- Risk Management: This is a group of technical experts providing loss prevention, claims management, risk financing and accounting services to Beverly and its subsidiaries. Interacting with all levels of internal management and external entities, such as brokers, third party administrators and insurance companies, our associates strive to maintain effective insurance programs that mirror the company’s strategic goals. This department protects Beverly’s assets and facilitates operational success through three primary functions: loss prevention, claims management and risk transfer, and retention and financing.
Internships in Information Technology
Beverly Enterprises offers a wide array of internship opportunities in the field of information technology that includes an Internet web team, LAN analysts, various programmers, technicians, on-call support specialists, engineers, etc. In establishing this internship program, it is our objective to provide a challenging and rewarding experience for the students, while introducing them to the unlimited opportunities Beverly has to offer.
The following summaries present an overview of the three divisions within the Information Technology Department and provides a better understanding of the diverse learning opportunities a student will find at Beverly Enterprises.
- Business Solutions: This area is responsible for development or procurement of key business and clinical applications for Beverly Enterprises and its subsidiaries, nationally. The team provides analysis, design, development and management for the implementation of these applications. Development environments include mainframe, client server and the Intranet. The department is responsible for several key developmental initiatives designed to allow the company to significantly advance its reporting and information management capabilities. The goal is to provide industry leading information technology to our facilities and corporate operations in order to allow maximum efficiencies and informed decision making.

Technology Services: This department supports all Beverly facilities as well as corporate and field offices in handling hardware, software and LAN-related problems, data security and the operations of the LAN-WAN network environment. Technology Services is made up of five distinct areas:
- Support Center - handles first level hardware and software calls;
- Advanced Support - handles advanced second level calls;
- Corporate Desktop Support - is responsible for corporate desktop hardware, software and LAN-related hardware;
- Data Security - is responsible for LAN, WAN and mainframe security; and
- Operations Group - is in charge of all operations of the LAN/WAN environment.
- Administration and Field Services: This area manages the tracking of assets, budgets, capitol projects, equipment leasing and maintenance for IT. Field Services is responsible for project management, training and scheduling functions for its customers in the field. This team also provides business consulting, hardware and software configuration support, Internet/Intranet and applications training for Beverly facilities.
