Executive Director-in-Training Program

Executive Director-in-Training Program

Beverly Healthcare, a Beverly Enterprises Subsidiary

The role of the Executive Director within a Beverly Healthcare facility is both challenging and rewarding, requiring strong management and interpersonal skills and instincts. They are leaders of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing quality care and services to the community. Executive Directors are responsible to effectively manage and balance a complex network of relationships among residents, family members, community leaders, physicians, associates, volunteers, consultants, group and corporate personnel, government agencies, professional associations and their members, and political and special interest groups.

This is a highly visible leadership role within the community, as well as within the Beverly Enterprises organization. Therefore, we invest considerable time, effort and resources into the development of the personnel who will fill these positions.

Beverly’s Executive Director-in-Training (EDIT) Program is a comprehensive, standardized training program, typically 6 to 12 months in duration, depending on state requirements and individual progress. It is designed to prepare an individual to become a competent Nursing Home Administrator by focusing on learning experiences through work rotations in every department within the facility.

Much of the learning in this program occurs through the relationship between the EDIT and their Preceptor. The Preceptor is an Executive Director chosen for his/her successful professional experience and commitment to the training of future Executive Directors. From the Preceptor, the EDIT will learn specific technical expertise in functional areas, management, supervision and community and customer relations.

The Preceptor is responsible for the EDIT's daily supervision and ensuring that the pre-determined training agenda and calendar is followed. The EDIT is monitored and evaluated by a steering committee consisting of the local Group Vice President, the Preceptor and the local EDIT Committee (where applicable). In order to become personally acquainted with and closely watch the progress of the EDIT, there are evaluations approximately every 6 weeks. In addition, the Preceptor is expected to review the EDIT's progress at the end of each departmental rotation.

Upon successful completion of the Executive Director-in-Training Program, the EDIT is awarded the opportunity to manage his/her very own, long-term nursing facility.
